Twilight Make Artist Leslie Graham Shares Her Mineral Makeup and Eyelash Extension Techniques on DVD
0Even if you’ve never heard of Leslie Graham or seen her eyelash extension dvd, there’s no doubt that you’ve seen her professional makeup work, particularly her groundbreaking work in mineral makeup and in eyelash extensions. The Twilight Saga, Tron Legacy, Night at the Museum, Ghost Rider, X-Men: Last Stand, Battelstar Galactica, Percy Jackson, the list goes on. Graham’s iconic work may not get the same amount of press as horror makeup artists like Greg Nicotero and Co., but her work has been an integral piece of some of the biggest hits in recent Hollywood history as she’s helped to create some of the makeup for the Twilight cast and Tron.
To look at Graham’s work, you’ll notice a couple of common themes from movie to movie: a firm command of skin tone and color, and an equally firm command of intense, dramatic eye makeup that can make every facial feature come alive on the screen. The characters of Twilight capture a kind of pale ethereal nature without looking pasty while Tron Legacy manages to look vibrant. These subtle tricks of the trade are, in truth, more difficult to master than the vast majority of wild effects shots and prosthetics you see in a lot of genre film. Someone doing makeup in a zombie movie can afford to create an unrealistic visual effect but Graham’s work has to be believable.
Furthermore, the majority of Graham’s work is film makeup. Films like Moulin Rouge and Burlesque with their glamorous visuals and extravagant makeup design are few and far between. For a young makeup artist entering the field today, mastering the basics of film makeup is going to get you a lot further than developing more fantastical looks.
A lot of makeup artists in the industry guard their secrets like forbidden knowledge. Luckily, Graham isn’t one of them. She shares all of her mineral techniques in the DVD “Mineral Makeup Techniques“, and gives up the goods on creating expressive, intense eye makeup with “Eyelash Extensions” volumes one and two.
If you’ve never experimented with advanced mineral makeup techniques, take Graham’s advice and feel free to play around with it “You’re going to love working with mineral makeup. Take your creativity as far you can. It’s hard to make a mistake with this product.”
Last year, Graham treated fans who attended the Twilight Convention in Vancouver to try some of these techniques on first-hand at the makeup booth. If nothing else, the event proved that the stars are only as beautiful as their makeup artists allow them to be. Currently Graham is working on a new TV series for Twentieth Century Fox Television and CBS called Chaos, starring Eric Close, Freddy Rodriguez, Tim Blake Nelson, and James Murray. With it scheduled to air early April 2011, it looks like Leslie Graham will have her hands full well into the foreseeable future.
